Carefree Legacy (Slarv med arv) is a collection pondering about the slipperiness of legacy – acting with or against it. Legacy of shape, material, production, distribution that trickles under the skin of the wearer.
A women sold a large textile stock to Elin, collected by her mother during the later half on 20th century. The woman delivered the stock with stories about her mother, who persistently gathered the material. And stories about herself. And her daughters. Tre generations of women. Walking the well-trodden path from previous generation.
A fraction of the stock is used in this collection, exploring the legacy of shape and the poetry (or dissonance) of how it is produced. Complexed shapes demands plenty of man-hours, hence production within the realm of Sweden is a difficult achievement, as the market now offer low priced products produced in large scale industries outside of Sweden.
This is why the collection travels along a breakdown to simplest element, to cut complexity in the production and so explore the possibilities of enabling a local based production. What aesthetic sacrifice or compromise does it imply?
The collection was presented as a three minute film during the fashion week, screened at the big outdoor screen at Stureplan, Stockholm. The film has its point of departure in the conflict of acting with or against legacy, and is displayed with two fractions of aesthetic directions playing against each other. This film is produced in co-operation with Duo Blau and four contemporary acrobats.
The collection had a concept idea of being sold by auctioning the products. By the time, it was not administratively possible to arrange such of an event, why the collection instead was sold off during pop-up shop night in the atelier of Elin Eng.
Opening of the film, screened every other 15 minutes at the big outdoor screen at Stureplan, Stockholm, during the fashion week, August 2013.
